Emma Raducanu is a British tennis player who was born on November 13, 2002, in Toronto, Canada. Her parents are Romanian and Chinese, but she grew up in London, UK. Raducanu began playing tennis at the age of five and was soon spotted by the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), which offered her a place in their national training program. Raducanu made her professional debut in 2018 at the age of 15, playing in the ITF Circuit. In 2019, she won her first ITF singles title at the $25,000 event in Hong Kong. She continued to have success on the ITF Circuit, winning a total of four titles before making her breakthrough at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. At Wimbledon, Raducanu qualified for the main draw as a wild card and went on a remarkable run, winning all of her matches without dropping a set. She became the first qualifier, male or female, to reach the semi-finals of the Wimbledon Championships in the Open Era. Unfortunately, Raducanu had to retire from her semi-final match due to breathing difficulties. Despite the disappointment of her Wimbledon exit, Raducanu continued to make waves in the tennis world. In August 2021, she won the US Open, becoming the first qualifier, male or female, to win a Grand Slam singles title. She did so without dropping a set and defeated fellow teenager Leylah Fernandez in the final.
